For Scholars

New Visions Core Participants Selected
The New Visions Steering Committee is pleased to announce its selection of core scholarly participants, featuring a diverse, internationally-recognized group drawn from the natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and humanities and theology. These core participants will, starting fall 2004, pursue an intensive project of collaborative research focusing on contemporary metaphors of biophysical and human nature across the science-humanities spectrum, exploring ways to harmonize these diverse visions of nature and their scientific and religious dimensions. The results of this two-year collaboration will be presented and discussed in a major public conference scheduled to take place at UC Santa Barbara spring 2006.

New Visions Visiting Professors and Guest Scholars To Be Named
The Steering Committee will soon announce a distinguished list of visiting professors drawn from our core participant group, who will reside in UC Santa Barbara between fall 2004 and spring 2006 in order to present public lectures, collaborate with fellow scholars, lead graduate seminars, and interact with undergraduate students.

Additionally, we are recruiting a high-caliber group of guest scholars drawn from across the academic spectrum to briefly visit UC Santa Barbara in pairs between fall 2004 and spring 2006 and present distinguished public lectures and conversations, as part of a series entitled Dialogues in Nature, Science, and Religion. Each of the Dialogues series will feature two prominent guest scholars representing very different disciplines whose work nonetheless converges on a common theme. More information on the Dialogues series will be presented in spring 2004.
