Biology and Ethics

Is nature a guide for human actions, and can we have an evolutionary ethics? Many biologists have been uneasy with seeking moral guidance from nature rather than from the more traditional disciplines that focus on ethics and morality.

Paul L. Farber is Distinguished Professor of Zoology and History at Oregon State University where he is Chair of the Department of History.  He has authored several studies on the history of natural history, comparative zoology, and ornithology. Among his books are Finding Order in Nature: The Naturalist Tradition from Linnaeus to E. O. Wilson, and The Temptations of Evolutionary Ethics.

This event is free and open to the public.
