Prof. Michael A. Osborne is Campus Director of New visions of Nature, Science, and Religion and have been a member of the steering committee for this program and the earlier Templeton Research Lectures series on Science, Religion, and the Human Experience. His research has focused on evolution, the role of scientific societies, environmental history, and the discipline of tropical medicine. He is currently member of a team of UCSB scientists and humanists investigating the social and ethical implications of embryonic stem cell research. Prof. Osborne holds graduate degrees in general science, library and information science, and a Ph.D. in the history of science and medicine. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD), and other agencies.
